One might ask how a well-connected attorney, father and husband could deliberately murder his own wife and son.
One word, EVIL!
Netflix recently ran a documentary and detailed the grisly details. It has several episodes that begins by including one of Alex Murdaugh’s sons getting drunk and running his boat into a piling in a river killing her. This was followed up with a coverup by his father and other family members. The three-generation family of attorneys were indeed successful in covering up the crime and it has never been successfully prosecuted.
A little later in the documentary Alex Murdaugh murdered his wife and son. This was followed by the murder of their longtime housekeeper. Then a homosexual affair developed between another of his sons, and he was murdered. Can it get any worse?
We then find out that Alex is a drug addict, and it is believed that much of this activity is a result of his use of prescription drugs. It was also bought to light that huge sums of money were involved. With money comes power and this family was one of the most powerful. The family actually ran the town and could do most anything they wanted.
Fast forward and we learn that Alex Murdaugh got two consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and son and is currently serving time in prison.
One has to ask the obvious question as to why someone would kill his own son and wife, not to mention the others. Was it the money, the power, the drugs, all of the above, or was just plain evil. After watching the documentary, I would opt for evil. I cannot understand it and I would wager that neither can you if you view it.
Evil is described in the dictionary as profoundly immoral and wicked especially when regarded as a supernatural force.
In other words, it is a classic definition of Satan. The Bible tells us to flee from him. Thank God for preserving us.
Psalm 97:10
O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
